What we would like to tell you, is based on the many questions asked by our clients when they visited Mexico. We hope this helps you when you travel with us!
*Water: Good water will be available. All the hotels we use have purified water. You will normally find 2 bottles in your room, or an empty pitcher to fill up from a big bottle of water. If we eat in these hotels, they will include purified water with our meals; occasionally we need to pay for it in restaurants, but in general purified water is free.
We recommend you bring empty bottles for water, so you can fill them at the different hotels. If you want to buy extra water, it is easy. You can get it on the train, or at hotels or in the little town shops!
The water from the faucet is not purified; we recommend you not drink it!
*Water on Hikes: When we have trekking trips, the first day we carry purified water from the hotel. On the following days, we will get water from wells. We purify this water ourselves. Good drinking water will be available.
*Food: All hotels and restaurants provide good delicious food that is healthy and safe. You don’t have to worry. Moreover, special diets can be accommodated. We believe the hotels we suggest are the best around The Copper Canyon.
If you have food allergies, please let us know. We will prepare in advance and inform the cooks.
*How to dress: Very comfortable, you do not need to wear fancy clothing, but, if you want to look handsome or pretty, you are welcome.
We recommend you to travel light. It is permitted to carry one piece of luggage not more than 50 pounds per person. If your excursion includes a hike, we recommend that you bring comfortable hiking boots.
Important! About the weather: Remember that visiting the Copper Canyon means that we will visit different towns, with different climates and of course different elevations, so bring clothing for hot weather, nice weather and cold weather. Layers are recommended. If you are booking a trip in the winter time, do not hesitate to bring a warm jacket, temperatures in the winter go very low, sometimes less than 32ºF. In the fall, mornings and nights are very cold.
Please bring: Hat, long and short sleeve shirts, light long pants, shorts, raincoat or parka, fleece jacket or pullover, sun glasses, insect repellent, sun block. Your clothing needs will depend on the season you visit us.
Also, there will be an abundance of photo opportunities, so don’t forget to bring a lot of memory or film for your camera.
*Medication: If you are on prescription medication, please bring a sufficient supply. As mentioned before we will be in rural and remote places and medications may be difficult or inconvenient to find.
*If you suffer low or high blood pressure, please check with your doctor. You will be visiting places as high as 5000 or 7700 feet and descend as low as 1700 feet in the same day (depending on your tour).
*If you are sensitive to insects’ bites, be prepared and take the medication you are used to. Normally we do not have any problem with this!
For your information, The Mexican Public Health Department combats malaria throughout Mexico and The Copper Canyon through eradication, prevention and treatment.
*Finally: If you travel in Mexico for eight days or more, you need to pay 20 US dollars for a tourist permit.
Important to know: If your excursion takes 7 days or less, you do not need to pay for a tourist permit, just fill out the form.
For those who are driving or traveling by bus through Mexico, you need to stop at Office of Immigration, where they will check all your belongings. Also this is the place where you need to fill out the form for a tourist card. HOWEVER, you have to make the payment at a bank (not at the office of Migration). Just take your stamped tourist permit to any bank in Mexico and make the payment.
The Visa fee is subject to change without notice. Normally plane ticket prices include the fee for a tourist card!
When you arrive at Office of Immigration, please be ready to show an ID with photo, a birth certificate (or better your passport).
If you are traveling with children under 18 years old, please prove they are your children with a birth certificate. If the children are not yours, please bring a letter from their parents to prove they have permission to be with you in this country.
Guided or Independent trips: Our excursions are designed to be guided trips, because we believe that with a guide on the whole trip, you get the best experience. You will get a lot more information on history, geology, archeology etc. and have a great interaction with the culture!
You do not need to worry about anything! Just have fun and enjoy. Your bilingual guide will make the big difference!
Our bilingual guides are capable and ready to please throughout the entire trip! However, if you are the kind of person that likes to do things on your own, that’s Ok. If you don’t want to hike with us in the morning, you can relax at the hotel or do something else.
If you are independent, we can give you a good deal on a non-guided, excursion. Ask for our independent rates!
Note: We are open to add any other suggestions from our clients!
