
Day 1: Arrive at The Los Mochis Airport and meet your bilingual guide. Travel by van to the Colonial city of El Fuerte, 1 ½ hours away. Your lodging will be at the Hotel El Fuerte, a captivatingly beautiful mansion over 200 years old.
Meals included: dinner.Day 2: This is a very exciting day, traveling on the only passenger/tour train in Mexico, the Chepe, passing through some of the stunning scenery that makes the Copper Canyon famous, we will arrive at our destination, the Cerocahui valley. Our rustic and comfortable lodging will be at the Hotel Paraiso del Oso.
After lunch, we have an easy hike, to the cave of the crosses.
This evening the hotel will provide us with fanny-packs (compress bags) where we’ll carry the most essential clothing for a 3 days trek. We will leave the rest of the luggage at the hotel and the staff will keep it for us for our return at the hotel. We recommend leaving certain valuables like passports as well!
Meals included: breakfast, lunch & dinner.Day 3: Huicorachi, (6800’ SL). After breakfast, we will start our first hike. Today we will reach an elevation of 1400’ (5-6 hrs) we will follow Raramuri trails up and down, but mostly we will go up. On arrival, we will help you settle down tents and after a while, your guide will get ready with drinks and a delicious dinner!
Huicorachi is a little Raramuri rancho, located on a beautiful mesa and deep canyons around. We will be camping with native, warm and very nice people along this journey.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.Day 4: El Naranjo, (3500’SL). An early breakfast (7 a.m.) will help us to start today’s hike no later than 8:30 a.m. This is going to be the longest and most strenuous day in the whole trek.
We will leave the highlands and take the steep trail down for most of the time. Leaving the oak-pine forest, our next encounter will be with the scrub oaks and little by little we will see a large variety of vegetation while we are getting down, also we will see cactus (Pitahayas) and cotton trees (Kapoks) (7-8 hours)
Same as other trekking days, lunch will be on the trail and arriving at the campsites, drinks and good dinner awaits!Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 5: Urique-Guadalupe Coronado. Our hike will take us through Urique and on to the little town of Guadalupe Coronado. At the town of Urique, we will cross a bridge and while we lunch there, we will have time to soak our feet in the Urique River and later we’ll keep going to our last campsite at Guadalupe Coranado! (6 hours)
This evening, you will notice that mestizos and Raramuri indigenous are getting excited, painting their bodies in white with black stripes, (they are the Pharisees or Fariseos) while a group of soldiers are protecting the entrance of the church in order to keep out the Fariseos who are acting like devils tonight!Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 6: Easter celebration is over. It’s Holy Saturday today, at mid-morning the Easter celebration ends by burning the Judas who portrays the dark side of life!
We will go back to the hotel, climbing up on a beautiful and impressive canyon road. When we get to the rim, we will be amazed by the beauty of the Urique canyon.
When we arrive at the hotel, we will enjoy a great shower and of course we will continue celebrating with Margaritas our trek’s efforts, but we have not gotten to the end of Easter celebrations yet! Tonight, we will visit the Mission of San Francisco Javier from the 17th century and see how this town celebrates the Easter!
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.Day 7: Today, after breakfast we will visit once again the town of Cerocahui, where the end of the Easter celebration is taking place. We will compare the two places we have visited and find out, that in such a small area we are sharing the same beliefs but projecting them in different ways!
The rest of the day will be free to enjoy the area! I am pretty sure the hotel will try to surprise us with a good dinner tonight!

Day 8: After breakfast, the morning will be free to wander around! At 11:30 am, we will go back to the train station and about 12:30 p.m. We will take the Chepe to our next destination, Posada Barrancas.
Our lodging is at the Hotel Mansion Tarahumara a very nice, family ambiance place, only 5 minutes away from the Canyon Rim. This evening is free to explore around or visit the Chinese cave (a Raramuri community).
Meals included: breakfast, lunch & dinner!Day 9: Today’s excursion will include tremendously beautiful views; we will see three different canyons from three different angles. The Canyons of Urique, Tararecua and Copper Canyon will impress!
After lunch, we get back on the train to El Fuerte, and go back to the Hotel El Fuerte. At your arrival enjoy an excellent dinner!
Back aboard your last train ride, enjoy a beautiful sunset while you are leaving these magnificent views along these canyons!
